The first step toward a Big Blue Ceiling headset was deliberately modest: what's the simplest, cheapest AR headset that works?

The answer was the first HoloFlect prototype. A Samsung Galaxy S6 provided the display and compute, and a Leap Motion controller added hand tracking, both held in a 3D-printed frame we designed. It was built for the audience HoloFlect started with: education, independent developers and underserved communities, where the hardware has to be affordable and easy to build.

Three cards: a Samsung Galaxy S6 provides display and compute, a Leap Motion controller provides hand tracking, and a 3D-printed frame we designed holds both.
The whole prototype came down to a phone, a hand tracker and a printed frame.

The prototype proved the basics, and the lessons from it fed directly into every HoloFlect generation that followed.
